What we do
Type of activities
NIA organizes different types of events such as cultural, academic and socio-political programs. Programs are meant to interest people in aspects of Indian and Dutch culture in an engaging way.
Our social get-togethers generally start with an informal meet and greet, followed by the programme proper, and a reception or evening program.
All events have a unique character because of its Dutch-Indian twist.
Besides networking NIA strives to create an environment in which people can enjoy each other’s company, background, expertise and personality. Quality food and drinks – both Indian and Dutch – flavour our gatherings, whereas musical or dance performances spice up the events.
Main programs
NIA organises 3 major cultural events and 1 academic program, seminar or debate per year.
These are:
-
King’s Day celebration (around 27 April)
-
Academic program or debate (May/June)
-
Indian Independence Day (15 August)
-
Diwali, possibly to be combined with Sinterklaas (November)
During these events (except the academic program) we have a special children’s program.
In-betweens
In addition smaller activities are planned. These are informal outings aiming at bringing together members and guests who share the same interests.
We will visit an art or photographic exhibition, see a film, visit a concert or artist studio. Everyone can bring in his or her expertise, special interest and come up with an idea.
The organisation level is simple: NIA drafts a short communication (Facebook, website, mail) naming the place, event and time. A meeting point will be given.
See the Upcoming events for the dates of the main and in-between activities.
Locations
Our members come from all over the country and therefore NIA organizes its events at suitable locations in different places.
